OakTec successfully completes multi-fuel MOD project

OakTec has recently completed an MOD funded project to develop the Pulse-R engine technology for multi-fuel use. The project brief was to design a Pulse-R engine that would run on fuels as diverse as propane gas to diesel and kerosene. Maintaining efficiency and emissions performance using ‘heavy oil’  fuels was challenging, but the application of an innovative high pressure fueling system allowed the engine to run well on all fuels within the brief. Particularly satisfying to the technical team at OakTec was the ability to cold start the engine on diesel and kerosene without ‘white smoking’, a problem that besets many multi-fuel engines and one of particular importance in military applications. A follow on project to develop the engine to field trial stage is anticipated in the future.
